Where do sessions take place/how are sessions charged?

We are a remote service, and music therapy sessions can be delivered at home, or in a community setting (for example, at school, or a day service program).

Pricing:

Our fees follow the current NDIS Price guide at 156.16 per hour. Sessions are offered in 45-minute and 60-minute time slots depending on your preferences, with each appointment including an additional 15 minutes of clinical administration to ensure accurate progress notes, outcome tracking, and communication with relevant supports. 

Rhythm and Sound Music Therapy provides individualised, evidence-based support tailored to each person’s strengths, needs, and goals.

Sessions may work towards a range of therapeutic outcomes and targeted goals depending on the individual needs and preferences of the person receiving music therapy. Please see below.

Area’s of practice:

  • Communication and Speech

    Music-based activities such as singing, vocal exercises and live music-making can be used to support speech production, breath control, expressive communication and confidence using the voice.

    Sessions can be adapted to a person's communication style and current abilities, with musical cues and repetition used to support participation and communication goals.

  • Increased Cognitive Functioning and Development

    Structured musical activities can support cognitive skills including memory, attention, sequencing, task initiation, following instructions and cognitive flexibility.

    Activities can be graded to match a person's abilities and may involve remembering musical patterns, following sequences, making choices, shifting between tasks and working towards an identified functional goal.

  • Strengthening of Movement and Physical Skills

    Rhythmic music-based activities can be used to support gross motor coordination, gait stability, movement planning and the timing and organisation of movement.

    Adapted instrumental activities can also support fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, hand function and functional movement. Activities can be modified to suit a person's physical abilities and may be used alongside the goals and recommendations of their physiotherapist.

    Please note: Where music therapy is being used to work towards physiotherapy-related physical goals, the person receiving music therapy should also be accessing physiotherapy. This allows the music therapist to work in conjunction with the physiotherapist's assessment, recommendations and treatment goals.

  • Enhanced Quality of Life

    Music therapy can provide structured opportunities for people to explore and communicate thoughts, feelings and experiences when these may be difficult to express through words alone.

    This may include songwriting to explore or communicate a significant experience, or improvisational music-making where a person can use instruments, sound and musical interaction to explore and express emotional experiences. The approach is adapted to the individual's communication style, preferences and therapeutic goals.

  • Emotional and Self Expression

    Music therapy can provide structured opportunities for people to explore and communicate thoughts, feelings and experiences when these may be difficult to express through words alone.

    This may include songwriting to explore or communicate a significant experience, or improvisational music-making where a person can use instruments, sound and musical interaction to explore and express emotional experiences. The approach is adapted to the individual's communication style, preferences and therapeutic goals.
